On-Grid Solar Systems

Designed for homes, businesses and commercial properties, an on-grid system connects your rooftop panels directly to the national grid, so you generate clean energy while staying connected whenever extra power is needed.

During daylight hours your panels power your appliances and equipment. When your system produces more than you consume, the excess energy is exported to the grid under the applicable CEB / LECO scheme, so you gain value from every surplus unit.

Off-Grid Solar Systems

Excess energy charges your battery bank or, depending on your connection and utility scheme, is exported to the grid. When solar generation is low, the system intelligently draws power from the battery or the grid according to its energy-management strategy.

The Technology

How a Photovoltaic System Works

Photovoltaic (PV) systems are made of many cells, typically crystalline silicon, arranged on a metal frame to form a module. When exposed to sunlight these cells produce a direct current of electricity. Used en masse, they generate a large amount of power with no moving parts, no noise and no emissions.

The amount of electricity generated depends on the size and arrangement of the PV array and the efficiency of the electrical components, called inverters, that convert solar energy into electricity usable by your home or building.

Solar Schemes

The Three Schemes of Solar in Sri Lanka

Under the government’s Surya Bala Sangramaya programme, grid-connected systems can be installed under three main categories.

Net Metering

Your rooftop system connects to the national grid via a net meter and billing is based on net consumption: total energy consumed minus energy produced. Excess production is carried forward as credits for future use within the agreement period.

Net Accounting

Your rooftop system connects to the national grid via a net meter. When generation is higher than consumption, you are paid for the units supplied to the national grid at the agreed tariff.

Net Plus

Your solar system and grid connection act as independent systems, and you are paid for all the units generated by your solar system and supplied to the national grid.
